For example, it has been shown that reverse osmosis can remove over 99% of benzene, cesium, chlorine, lead, mercury, and rust in addition to partial removal of algae, arsenic, copper, fluoride, and various bacteria.

What is Distilled Water?

In terms of purity, water that has been through the reverse osmosis process has typically had 90-99% of contaminants removed. Due to this, purified water is considered to be safe to drink for the majority of individuals. On the other hand, distilled water has had 99%+ of contaminants removed. Additionally, the heat involved in the boiling process kills nearly all bacteria and viruses. Therefore, when speaking of purity, distilled water is the purest available water.

When regarding flavor, both purified and distilled water shine. Purified water, since it has removed the majority of contaminants that can make water smell or taste bad, especially chlorine, is considered to have a much better taste than tap water.
